The participants worked in a range of public sector organisations across different tiers of government, including government departments and delivery bodies. Most participants were professionally qualified accountants engaged in finance roles.We are very grateful to all of the participants in our roundtables, which have helped to shape the conclusions of the report. The final part of the delivery chain – delivering outcomes and outputs which meet the goals of decision makers and wider society – is therefore an essential element of the public sector’s productivity. Public sector organisations must prioritise their focus on those activities that have the greatest influence on achieving objectives. Finance professionals are integral to this process by providing analysis and ensuring resources are allocated to priorities. They can also drive collaboration between public sector bodies to support action on the most challenging issues. By exploring the case for earlier intervention to address policy
