Page 1 EMPOWERING HEALTH WORKERS, STRENGTHENING SYSTEMS: A review of an online training on Gender- based violence (GBV) Prevention and Response in Ukraine Health, Nutrition and Population Global Practice Knowledge Brief Official Use Only KEY MESSAGES 1 A systematic review of GBV prevalence studies in contexts of violence and fragility highlights that IPV remains the most common form of violence in emergencies. Displacement, exposure to armed conflict, loss of community protection structures, perceived threats to masculinity, increased substance abuse are some of the factors that can exacerbate sexual violence and intimate partner violence in crises. GBV often heightened in emergencies, is a compelling issue in Ukraine, a nation experiencing one of the most profound humanitarian crises in recent history.
