50 by 2050Pioneers in Carbon ReductionSeptember 2024Human activity has warmed the planet approximately 1.0°C above pre-industrial levels causing an increase in the frequency of catastrophic events globally. This temperature shift is expected to meaningfully increase between 2030 and 2050. The Paris Agreement sets a goal of limiting temperature increase to well-below 2°C, preferably 1.5°C, to prevent catastrophic and cascading changes. This requires widespread cooperation across scientists, policymakers, corporations, financial institutions, non-profit leaders, investors, and beyond. At Congruent Ventures and Silicon Valley Bank, we recognize the pivotal role played by innovative private companies in finding solutions to mitigate this global challenge.We are introducing the Inaugural 50 by 2050 List to highlight fifty companies that have strong potential to abate significant greenhouse gas emissions over the next 25 years. Narrowing down the climate startup ecosystem to a list to only fifty companies was no easy feat; there are many other commendable companies that are poised to contribute meaningfully to global decarbonization by 2050.
