Within UNEP, the Sustainable Mobility Unit plays a pivotal role in helping countries transition toward cleaner, more efficient, safer and inclusive transport systems. The unit supports national and city governments across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe by promoting policies and regulatory frameworks that accelerate the shift to sustainable mobility. Its work spans the promotion of electric mobility, cleaner fuels and vehicle standards, improved public transport, and infrastructure for active mobility such as walking and cycling. By integrating these approaches, the unit contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and aligning transport systems with the goals of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
