The rationale for establishing the European Chamber was based on the need of the European Union (EU) and European businesses to find a common voice across the various business sectors throughout China.The European Chamber has grown to more than 1,700 member companies and operates from seven chapters across nine cities: Beijing, Nanjing, South China (Guangzhou and Shenzhen), Shanghai, Shenyang, Southwest China (Chengdu and Chongqing) and Tianjin.The European Chamber is recognised by the European Commission and the Chinese authorities as the official voice of European businesses in China. Mission StatementAs a member-based organisation, the European Chamber seeks to:• ensure greater market access and provide a level playing field for European businesses in China;• improve market conditions for all businesses in China;• facilitate networking among members and stakeholders;• provide members with relevant information on doing business in China; and• update its members on economic trends and legislation in China.Principles• We are an independent, non-profit organisation governed by our members.• We work for the benefit of European businesses as a whole.• We operate as a single, networked organisation across China.• We maintain close, constructive relations with Chinese and European officials, while retaining our independence.• We seek the broadest possible representation of European businesses in China within our membership: large, medium and small enterprises from all business sectors and European Member States.• We operate in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations.• We treat all our members, business partners and employees with fairness and integrity.MEMBERSHIPThe European Chamber guarantees members a common voice and means for effectively communicating with European and Chinese government officials, business associations and media.
