In an increasingly interconnected world, where cities are the engines of economic growth and innovation, technology plays a critical role in our shared pursuit of more sustainable and inclusive urban communities. Smart cities offer hope for a more responsive and adaptive urban environment with improved quality of life, increased efficiency and enhanced public engagement. However, the realization of these aspirations require a thoughtful and holistic approach that considers the complex interplay between technology, governance and societal needs. This publication aims to shed light on the multifaceted nature of this transformation and the global takeaways it offers. Strong technology governance is the cornerstone of smart city development. It encompasses the principles, policies and frameworks that guide the responsible and ethical deployment of technology in urban contexts.
