However, with the promise of the technology comes acute risks. AI can exacerbate social inequalities and negatively affect our environment if not developed and deployed responsibly. With this in mind, and to ensure that AI serves humanity, particularly people in underrepresented communities worldwide, Microsoft, the EY organization, the Schwab Foundation and a rich community of social innovators have launched the AI for Social Innovation initiative to highlight how AI can deliver on its extraordinary promise, address its inherent risks and inform the technology roadmap to make AI purpose-built for impact.Social innovators are already at the forefront, demonstrating environmentally and socially responsible deployment of AI. These are the changemakers who prioritize purpose over profit, who wake up every day determined to make a difference.
